What Can I Do With This Major? (WCIDWTM) is one of my favorite tools for career exploration.
It contains robust information for nearly 100 academic majors and presents that information in a way that is easy to navigate. There are three features that I think make it particularly valuable for exploring career options and I’m highlighting those below, accompanied by some screenshots when using the site as a History major.
One: Common Career Paths & Employers
For each major, students can see specific industry sectors they might work in, common career paths that someone might choose to follow (based on industry sector), as well as the types of employers who hire people from these career paths.

For History, a total of 9 industry sectors are included. In addition to Local and State Government, Federal Government, and Politics, WCIDWTM also has information pertaining to: Law, Non-Profit, Information Science, Education, Business, and Media.
Let’s take a look now at potential career paths and employers for history majors who may want to work in Federal Government:

Two: Suggested Strategies to Prepare for Future Career Success
The site offers specific actions that students can take while in college to help prepare for their future careers. These are practical ideas and most are easy to implement without any outside assistance. The strategies below are for History majors consider a role in the Non-Profit sector.

Three: Professional Associations & Related Resources
For each major, relevant professional associations are listed along with related resources. Taking time to learn about the associations and reviewing the resources can help a student get more in-depth insights into what a career field is all about. Professional associations often have significantly reduced membership rates for students and hold professional events that allow individuals to be aware the latest trends in the field and to network.
Below you will see the professional associations and related resources listed on WCIDWTM for History majors:
