Welcome (or Welcome back) to UMass Lowell! I already feel like it’s going to be an exciting year. All of us in the Career & Co-op Center are looking forward to helping you on your career journey.

Fact: Employers start posting and filling summer internship positions during the early fall semester

Right now there are already close to 1,000 internship postings on Handshake for summer 2025. Whether you’re interested in working close to Lowell or close to your hometown next summer, internship postings span the country and companies provide remote internship opportunities as well.

That’s not to say the only time you can get a summer internship is in fall. In reality, Summer internships are posted throughout the year, but the fall semester is absolutely the most active period with September and October being the biggest summer intern recruiting cycle time.

With this information in mind, we always encourage students to begin your summer internship search now so that you don’t miss out on opportunities.

Where can you find these opportunities? Our suggestion: Handshake.

Handshake is the #1 platform for UMass Lowell students to find jobs, internships, and co-op roles. A great place to start is to check out internship postings related to your career interests. From the Jobs listings section, you can filter based on your career interests and the job location to find what is available and of interest to you.

Prefer to search for opportunities based on a period of time? Handshake is also organized by term. To filter by a certain time frame, go to the Jobs listings section on Handshake and choose the UMass Lowell Collections filter for your preferred semester – fall 2024, spring 2025 or summer 2025.

And remember, you don’t have to search alone

Handshake is an incredble tool, but it’s not something you have to use exclusively by yourself. Our office is here to support your job search, answer your questions, and provide suggestions or edits for your job search materials like your resumes or cover letters. We have a great team available to work with you individually or through career workshops and events. Our website is also packed with resources related to identifying your career interests and conducting a job search.

I hope to see you in the Center or at one of our career events this fall. From myselfand all of us at The Career & Co-op Center, we wish you all the best with your fall semester. We’re here to support you in following your career interests and developing your career.
