Career Development for International Graduate Students

Many U. S. employers, especially large employers, begin recruiting for their summer internships in September–a full nine months before the internship would begin. This program is designed to prepare new international students for that internship search. This is important because UMass Lowell believes that adding practical experience, like an internship or co-op, is an important part of one’s education.

Purpose:
To equip international graduate students with the tools, knowledge, and cultural fluency to identify and pursue relevant work experience early in their academic journey.

Build skills. Gain experience. Start strong.

This program is designed to help newly enrolled international graduate students to confidently pursue U.S.-based experiential learning opportunities—such as internships, research roles, and on-campus jobs—that support their academic and professional goals.

Program Features:

  • Self-paced summer modules on U.S.-style resumes, job search etiquette, work authorization, and professional communication
  • In-person workshop on campus during Welcome Week for interactive skills training, resume evaluation, and interview preparation
