Handshake is an exciting platform for employers looking to connect with exceptional talent from our UML community to fulfill their hiring needs. To help you make the most of this resource, we’ve included some suggestions below for posting your job materials effectively.

Job Description – Know your audience. Simplify job descriptions, highlight awards (e.g., Best Places to Work), and add engaging facts to attract students.
Autofill checkbox – Entering the job description lets AI autofill details on the next pages. Review and confirm before posting
Job Title – Phrases like “Summer 2027 Internship” or “2026 June-Dec Co-op” quickly show students what you need.
Position Types – Choose the correct position type. Skip work-study—it’s managed elsewhere. For co-ops, select Cooperative Education, not Internship.
Location Requirements – Choose onsite, remote, or hybrid. Use the job location address, not your HQ.
Time Requirements – Co-ops are full-time, temporary, or seasonal. Internships: full-time in summer, part-time during school. Jobs are mostly full-time and permanent. Temporary or seasonal roles need start & end dates.
Compensation and Benefits
Expected Pay – Some states require pay ranges (incl. remote jobs). Pay information boosts student interest. You may opt out by clicking “Don’t show pay.” All paid jobs require an hourly rate; jobs with only “Additional compensation” will be declined.
Other Benefits – Select any of the benefits listed and/or link your company’s benefits page to the job.
Categorize Your Job – Tell us the type of job you’re hiring for by adding job role groups.
Candidate Qualifications
Work Authorization – Please select your work authorization requirements.
Skills, Latest Graduation Date & Minimum GPA – Entering skills will better match your job with students’ Handshake profiles. We recommend keeping the graduation date blank unless you’re looking for a recent grad.
School Year & Major Groups – Optional but important: Select Major Groups or search “University of Massachusetts Lowell” to pick from UMass Lowell majors. This step helps students find your job over competitors’.
Choose Schools – Auto-select, post to specific schools, or use a school list – University of Massachusetts Lowell
Application Process – Enter open and close dates, required documents, and number of hires. Applications can go to Handshake or your ATS.
Your Hiring Team – Set Division, Job Owner, and Email preferences. To get applications fast, choose “Send email when a candidate who meets qualifications applies” or “Send email when a candidate applies.” You may also add up to two hiring team members.
One last check – Confirm everything looks good before posting your job to Handshake.
Extra Job-Related Information
Extending expiration dates for current jobs – Jobs will be posted for 30 days only. Before the 30 days are complete, you will receive a notification asking if you want to add an additional 30 days. You may renew a few times.
Re-posting an expired job – If you want to re-post a job that has expired, duplicate the job, edit the dates, and post the job again. When you do this, any applications associated with this job will be current rather than rolled over from a prior posting. Please do not change the dates on the old job and repost it.
Expiring your jobs when you’ve successfully hired – This will prevent students from applying for a job that no longer exists.
