RE: Capron Park Zoo Horticultural Internship (UNPAID)
The Capron Park Zoo is seeking a Horticultural Intern who is focused on making a difference for our community based institution. This internship provides hands-on opportunities that support our efforts to promote the Capron Park Zoo, as an experience for our guests to be inspired to connect our communities with wildlife and wild places.
Our internships requires a minimum weekly commitment of ten hours, but are also structured to meet the requirements of your college or university.
Working under the Zoo Director and Operational Manager you will:
- Maintain zoo landscapes to include watering, fertilizing, weeding, planting, etc.
- Assist with exhibit design considerations.
- Turf and walkway maintenance to include mowing, trimming, debris removal.
- Waste, litter, and recycling management.
- Visitor relations.
- Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs and be able to work in all inclement weather conditions.
- Assist with daily projects.
Skills:
- Must be currently enrolled from a degree program in Horticulture, Biology or
related field.
- Ability to think creatively and innovatively.
- Ability to take initiative.
Minimum Qualifications:
- One year of course work in relevant subject matter.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Overall GPS of 2.5 or higher in related field.
- Excellent communication skill both oral and written.
