POSITION SUMMARY
Assures the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the electric system by exercising appropriate control involving Hoosier Energy’s transmission and generation facilities including the facilities of Member Systems and interconnected utilities. Meets the electrical demand requirements of the Member Systems. Complies with all NERC and RRO operating standards, policies, and guidelines.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Adhere to all NERC and RRO operating standards, policies, and guidelines related to transmission and generation system operations.
- Coordinate operational actions and share operational information with interconnected utility companies and Independent System Operators (ISOs). Notify management personnel promptly of existing or impending emergency situations.
- Compile, summarize, and analyze interchange and generation data, preparing files and reports, as necessary. Perform daily and monthly energy and demand validation with generating stations, interconnected utilities, and ISOs.
- Develop draft switching instructions, ensuring proper execution of switching procedures and minimizing the risk of operational errors.
- Direct equipment switching and issue clearances to transmission and generation personnel.
- Inform Member Systems of all system conditions which may impact power distribution.
- Ensure the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of electrical system facilities and equipment by monitoring load and voltage.
- Execute operating procedures to ensure the integrity of the transmission and distribution systems.
- Follow directives from Reliability Coordinators regarding Bulk Electric System (BES) operations.
- Monitor transmission and distribution systems via the Energy Management System (EMS) and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system to inform critical operational decisions.
- Maintain and review logs and records of activities associated with system operations and dispatch.
- Maintain understating of internal operating procedures and relevant ISO operating manuals.
- Provide guidance and relief to other System Control Supervisors as system or environmental conditions require.
- Take or direct timely and appropriate real-time actions under normal or emergency conditions, if necessary, to prevent or alleviate operating limit violations, to restore the system to normal operating conditions, and ensure safety of personnel and public.
- Work rotating shift schedule that includes 12-hour shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays in a 24/7/365 environment.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree in electrical engineering or related field or equivalent in progressive experience minimum
- Completion of Internal Training Packet and Reliability Tasks for Transmission System Operations minimum
- NERC Certified System Operator certificate minimum
Experience:
- Two years’ progressively more responsible experience in generation and transmission operations or power system control minimum
- Two years’ experience in electrical system operations minimum
