JVS assists employers in their search for well-qualified job applicants and their initiatives to upgrade the skills of their incumbent workforce.
Program/Department Overview:
The Access to Recovery (ATR) Program is a job-readiness training program at JVS that is funded by the Massachusetts ATR program. We assist adults with substance addiction and/or are involved with the courts to safely address barriers to employment and training. The class covers job readiness (resume, cover letter, interviewing, job searching) and career planning. Students are paid a stipend while in class. After completing the class, students have the option of either going on to further training in several occupations or finding employment.
Responsibilities:
The ATR Intern will perform a variety of hands-on direct service tasks and administrative assistance during and outside of the training class, and work closely with the training students, Career Coach staff, and instructors. Duties include, but not limited to:
- Assisting class instructor and co-facilitating class exercises and activities. Class is Monday-Thursday from 9:30am-2:15pm. We are seeking interns that can assist the majority of their hours within this timeframe; specifically on Mondays and Wednesdays.
- Contacting clients for interviews, notifying clients and coordinators of acceptance into training via email and making reminder calls to clients before each new training start date.
- Providing guidance to students while performing activities using laptop computers.
- Contacting past graduates for updates and referrals to services.
- Other duties as necessary or assigned
Skills/Qualifications:
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Available to work the majority of the hours, in-person, within the Monday-Thursday from 9:30am-2:15pm. We are seeking interns that can assist the majority of their hours within this timeframe; specifically on Mondays and Wednesdays
- Ability to work independently and take initiative
- Strong communication skills
- Personable, patient.
- Capacity to display empathy toward participants.
- Be comfortable working with diverse populations and individuals with substance abuse issues and/or histories of incarceration.
