The Career & Co-op Center hosts several career fairs each academic year. These fairs provide students with an opportunity to connect with employers to discuss internships, co-ops, and full-time opportunities. These events are also a great way to sharpen your networking skills and build confidence.

Looking for some quick tips as you prepare for the Career Fair? Here’s what you can do… 

Before the Career Fair

  1. Review your resume using the Effective Resume Writing document.  
  1. Schedule a 15-minute Career Consultation to get feedback on your resume or attend a Career Corner: Resume
  1. Research employers attending the career fair on Handshake and prioritize who you want to meet. 
  1. Practice your 30-second elevator pitch to introduce yourself with confidence. 
  1. Plan your look: aim for clean, coordinated, and professional.  
  1. Still have questions? Meet with a Career Advisor

During the Career Fair

  1. Arrive early and check in with your UML ID 
  1. Even if you show up with a friend, try to explore the fair on your own — employers are impressed when you take initiative. 
  1. Be yourself: enthusiastic, authentic, and channel your confidence!  
  1. Collect contact information from recruiters for follow-up. 

After the Career Fair

  1. Reflect on your conversations and follow up on any next steps. 
  1. Email thank-you notes to employers you spoke with — ideally within 24 hours.
